October 6 – 12, 2019

FIre Prevention Week Logo

Fire Prevention Day is always celebrated on October 9th to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

October is National Fire Safety Month and is a great time to replace the batteries on your smoke detectors and come up with a family plan if there were ever a fire in your home. Pick a place to meet outside that is far enough away from the house but not in the way of a fire engine (your mailbox may sound like a good place, but a fire truck may arrive and block that area). Choose a tree in your yard or a neighbors house as a meet up point and make sure everyone knows to get out and go straight there. This way everyone is accounted for before alerting the fire department that someone may still be inside.
